Women in Science and Engineering Student Summer Employment Program- Summer Coordinator
(8 week contract)
Women in Science and Engineering Newfoundland and Labrador (WISE NL) is a non-profit, volunteer
organization whose objective is to encourage women to engage in careers in science, engineering, and
related fields. The WISE NL Student Summer Employment Program (SSEP) provides female high school
students in Grade 11 from across the province with the opportunity to work in research positions at
Memorial University and various for-profit and non-profit organizations.
Position Summary
Under the Supervision of the Program Administrator, the successful applicant will coordinate all
operational aspects required to deliver SSEP. This position is based in the City of St. John’s, with the ability
to work remotely. The applicant should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as
organization skills. The applicant must also be able to work independently, and perform duties that require
attention to detail, strong initiative and good judgement.
Duties
The successful application will be responsible for the following duties:
- Liaise between students, supervisors, funding agencies, parents and university staff;
- Planning program logistics, including organizing a student orientation event, scheduling workplace
and educational tours, organizing student social events, and student presentations; - Coordinating, interacting with, and advising students;
- Program trouble shooting and problem solving;
- Tracking expenses and managing budgets; and
- Managing administrative and daily program activities including but not limited to:
- processing and preparing correspondence;
maintaining a filing system which includes the management of various forms and related
paperwork;
preparing the weekly newsletters; and
writing reports.

Applicant Criteria & Qualifications
The successful applicant will satisfy the following criteria:- Just completed a semester of full-time post-secondary education, are enrolled in full-time postsecondary education for September 2023, and are not attended classes during the contract period;
- Be between the ages 18 and 30; and
- Be a Canadian citizen.
In addition to the foregoing criteria, proficiency in Microsoft office Suite, basic accounting practices, and
social media platforms, are assets. Previous experience in coordinating science and engineering youth
programs for non-profit organizations is also an asset.
Preference will be given to female applicants in science or engineering related programs.
Pay: $14.50-$15.50/hour – commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience (based on 35 hours/week).
